Dinner on the 'Black Diamond Express'

This circa 1910 view shows both the galley and dining car interior on the Lehigh Valley Railroad's famous 'Black Diamond Express' connecting New York City with Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Chicago. Today people equate luxury rail travel with the famed European train, 'Orient Express', as if nothing like it ever existed in this country. The fact is that luxury rail travel in the United States stood second to none anywhere else in the world. The appointments in this dining car is evidence of that.
