The cross-country 'Panama Limited' was the all-pullman luxury train operated by the Illinois Central Railroad between Chicago and New Orleans. Inaugurated in 1911, The 'Panama Limited' enabled passengers to depart Chicago, travel in comfort and style to New Orleans, and also embark a ship for Panama. After the Panama Canal opened, passengers could book passage through to California or The Orient. Here we see the famous train's interior, observation car, the train at speed, and the four track approach into Chicago that "help keep the 'Panama Limited' on time." The postcard of the kitchen view was recently selected for inclusion in a new book on upscale cuisine.
