Two Footers to Maine Towns and Mills

Narrow gauge railroads were not just three feet between the rails. Some were two feet...especially up in Maine where the two footers were the way to go. There were a number of Maine narrow gauge railroads that came and sadly went, but there are operating equipment museums  that have preserved the locomotives and cars of this great narrow gauge tradition. Here is a circa 1930s view of a home-made railbus on the Bridgton & Harrison at the Bridgton depot.

This is the station at Harrison, Maine circa 1908, when the railroad was the Bridgton & Saco River. Note the train and the size of the locomotive in relation to the man on the station platform. This card was printed with 'Raymond' originally printed on the card as the town in the view. That was struck out on a second run and 'Harrison' printed on the card.
