Oh Susie-Q!

This is a pre-zip code (1963) view of a pair of Susquehanna RS1s in the old maroon and silver paint scheme that had been replaced with the all-silver scheme in 1946. This may be a newer card (pre 1963) with an older photo (pre 1946). In any case, this is the first time that I have seen this card in my years of collecting vintage railroad postcards. Having played on the tracks of this railroad and watching their RS1s rumble along wither pulling a single passenger car or s string of freight cars, I remember the Susquehanna fondly. Check out the semaphores and the great tribute to the line on the reverse side! I don't know exactly where this photo was taken, but it may be near Jersey City.

Here is what the RS1 maroon and silver paint scheme looked like in color...

In addition to  passenger car service, the NYS&W ran a few Budd rail-diesel cars prior to the end of all passenger service.

Here is a Susquehanna station in Northern New Jersey...

The station in Pompton Lakes, not far from the Butler station above...

And the station in my hometown. The Butler, Pompton Lakes, and the Hawthorne stations still stand today.
