General Sherman and General Grant


These two sequoia trees are twos of the biggest trees in the world and amongst the largest living organism on the planet. General Sherman Tree stands at a height of 83.8m. The trunk is 11.1m in diameter at its base and has a total volume of 1487 cubic metres which gives it an approximate weight of 1385 tons. It is estimated to be between 2300 and 2700 years old.


General Grant Tree has a height of 81.5m and has a diameter of 8.8m at its base and is approximately 1800 years old. Named after Ulysses Grant it was proclaimed the United States' national christmas tree by President Calvin Coolidge.
