Senior minister faults Sri Lankan diplomats in the West for President's UK visit failure

A senior government minister has today faulted the Sri Lankan diplomats in Europe for the issues faced by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during his recent visit to the UK.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena has said at a function today that it was the failure on the part of certain Sri Lankan diplomats in Europe that had resulted in the cancellation of President Rajapaksa's speech at the Oxford Union.

According to Sirisena, it is the lack of commitment shown by these Sri Lankan diplomats that had enabled LTTE sympathizers in the Western countries to block the President's address at the Oxford Union.

The Minister has also accused these diplomats of enjoying perks and privileges in the West on public expense.
