One of the strangest dishes of world can be found in Sweden. Surstromming is fermented baltic herring(fish) and is easily available in supermarkets.
The herring is caught in Spring when it is about to spawn and is fermented in barrels for two to three months. They are then tinned where they continue to ferment and they often bulge during shipments as the process of fermentation is on.
