Sri Lanka ruling party to sack three provincial councilors for soliciting bribes

Sri Lanka Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena, who is also the secretary of ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) says that three provincial councilors who solicited bribes to grant jobs in the Health Department will be removed from the party.

He said that the party has evidence regarding their conduct and they will be sacked without request to show cause or disciplinary investigation.

The SLFP central committee is to meet tomorrow and the three provincial councilors will be exposed there, the Minister stated.

The offenders have solicited bribes for several of the 950 appointments that were granted officially yesterday. They have taken bribes of Rs. 150,000, Rs. 100,000, and Rs. 75,000.
