Book honoring the world's first female Prime Minister, Siramavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka launched

"SIRIMAVO Honouring the world's first woman Prime Minister", a book honouring the life of world's first female Prime Minister Siramavo Bandaranaike of Sri Lanka was launched today at the BMICH in Colombo to honor the 50th anniversary of her election to the country's then highest post.
Chairman of the Bandaranaike Museum Committee and the eldest daughter of late Prime Minister, Ms. Sunethra Bandaranaike presented the first copy of the book to President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
Former President of Sri Lanka and the youngest daughter of Sirimavo Bandaranaike, Ms. Chandrika Kumaranatunga was also at the presentation.

According to the editor, Tissa Jayatilaka the book is a composed analysis of Sirimavo Bandarnaike's contribution to public life and contains well-balanced contributions from 14 eminent personalities such as late Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, former diplomat and UN Under-Secretary General for Disarmament Affairs Jayantha Dhanapala, Professor of Political Science in the University of Colombo Jayadeva Uyangoda, and Official Secretary to seven Prime Ministers Bradman Weerakoon.
Venerable Maha Sangha, other religious dignitaries, Prime Minister D. M. Jayarathne, diplomats, parliamentarians, and distinguished invitees participated in the event.
