Christmas 2006

I'd been a little worried that Christmas might not look so nice this year. We only had about 3 inches of old crusty snow on the ground and most of it had been blown off the mountains. Then this week it snowed for 4 days. We have two feet here in town and in Girdwood they have around 5 feet. It didn't get windy after the last snow and so when it cleared up on Christmas day the mountains looked spectacular. We passed some Dall Sheep digging for salt by the road on the way to Girdwood.

These geometric shapes are where large plates of snow have cracked off as avalanches

This is not a trail but the actual road up Crow Creek

You can't argue that this isn't a lot of snow

Unfortunately the plows haven't opened up any of the pullouts along the highway, so although the scenery was great i couldn't pull over to take pictures until we got to Girdwood. I took the dogs for a walk and got a few pics off before my battery froze.

So.... guess that's it for 2006, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
